Pain
noun
1. highly unpleasant physical sensation caused by illness or injury.
Birth isn’t an illness or injury. Therefore, strictly speaking, what a labouring woman is feeling is technically not pain.
However – I’m all about empowerment and choosing your own adventure, so you are completely entitled to label each and every sensation whatever you wish. Nevertheless, my challenge to you is, does this serve you in preparing for a more calm, positive birth?
Pain is something we move away from, something we resist and avoid.
If we are labelling a surge (a contraction) as something we don’t want, then we are causing suffering and likely having a physical response ie tensing up and releasing stressor hormones.
In Hypnobirthing we refrain from using the word pain, but rather intense sensations, pressure, tightening’s and strong sensations. There is no denying it, birthing a baby is no stroll in the park, but it certainly doesn’t have to be something we fear or resist.
If we can encourage the sensations, step into the strength of what is going on in our bodies, see it for what it is – as a moment in time towards a beautiful prize at the end – we can pave the way for a more efficient, easier birth experience. This momentous occasion is one that begins the next transformation, from Maiden to Mother. So I encourage you to do everything in your power to start your parenting journey feeling confident, strong and empowered . Gift this to yourself, you’re worth it. Your child is worth it.
Let’s step into our power as women.
Have trust. You are so much stronger than you know. I promise x
